Before I say anything about TurboMosaic, I have to quickly explain what a mosaic is: it’s a larger image made up of smaller images and when you zoom in, you can see all the small images that make up the mosaic. Thanks to TurboMosaic, you too can very easily create a mosaic. Just pick some tile pictures, select a main picture, adjust a few settings, hit the Generate Mosaic button, and moments later you’ll have your mosaic.

TurboMosaic is available for Windows and it is available for Mac as well. On the Windows front, TurboMosaic provides support for Windows Vista, 7, 8 or 8.1, and 10. On the Mac front, TurboMosaic provides support for Sierra, El Capitan, Yosemite, and Mavericks or newer.

The main panel on TurboMosaic’s interface displays the mosaic you’re working on; it will display the main picture once you select it and the mosaic once it’s been generated. On the left hand side there’s a panel that features two tabs:
Tile pictures – load the smaller images that will be used to create the mosaic; if you don’t have any images to load, then add some sample tile pictures.
Settings – from here you can customize the way your mosaic will look like: pick a custom size, select a particular cell style, set a custom number of rows and customs, adjust the cell size, crop the main picture, and more.

I know that I’m oversimplifying, but the truth of that matter is that using TurboMosaic is a fairly straightforward 3-step process. Step 1, select the tile images that you want to use and pick the main picture that will be turned into a mosaic. Step 2, tweak the settings and customize the way the mosaic will look like. Step 3, generate the mosaic and export it as a JPEG, PNG of TIFF image.

Examples of what can be done with TurboMosaic are available on the aptly named Photo Mosaic Examples section of the official TurboMosaic website.

TurboMosaic isn’t free, and a prompt will remind you of this fact every time you open the application. The TurboMosaic trial will put a watermark on any mosaic that you create.

The ease of use is one of TurboMosaic’s biggest appeals. Thanks to this application you can create custom mosaics quickly and with a minimal amount of effort.

Pros

TurboMosaic is available for Windows and Mac. The interface is quite easy to figure out. Sample tile pictures are available. Creating mosaics with TurboMosaic is a fairly simple 3-step process. Mosaics can be exported as JPEG, PNG of TIFF images. Lots of useful documentation is available online.

Cons

The trial version will put a watermark on your mosaics.
